Welcome to "Anticipating a Future Rising," a course designed to equip you with the skills and tools necessary to prepare your organization for future success. This course includes lessons on anticipating future trends, identifying interconnected systems, leveraging learning as a resource, and scenario mapping.

Inspired by renowned author and expert in future studies Andrew Maynard's book Future Rising, this course will help you gain an understanding of how we can navigate emerging technologies and societal shifts in the workplace.

Throughout this unit, you will explore the practice of trend analysis and gain practical skills to lead your organization with confidence.

In this unit, we explore the art of trend analysis as a strategic tool for anticipating future developments and positioning your organization for success. By gathering data, engaging with experts, and involving your team, you can effectively identify and leverage emerging trends.

Trend analysis involves examining patterns and changes in the market to predict future developments. By identifying emerging trends, you can position your organization to capitalize on new opportunities.

To conduct a trend analysis, start by gathering data from various sources, such as industry reports, market research, and customer feedback. Analyze this data to identify patterns and potential shifts in the market. The goal is to anticipate changes before they become mainstream, allowing your organization to stay ahead of the curve.

External resources are invaluable for staying updated on emerging trends. Industry newsletters, market research reports, and expert analyses provide insights that can help you anticipate changes and make informed decisions.

Regularly consulting these resources ensures that you are aware of the latest developments and can proactively adapt your strategies. Encourage your team to engage with these resources as well, fostering a culture of continuous learning and anticipation.

Encourage your team to participate in workshops and training sessions focused on trend analysis to build a culture of proactive anticipation.

Let's explore a dialogue between two colleagues discussing the application of trend analysis in their organization.

• Jake: I've been analyzing the data, and it seems like the trend towards remote work is only going to grow. We should consider investing in better virtual collaboration tools.
• Victoria: That's a good point, Jake. I've also read some industry reports suggesting the same. Do you think we should model different scenarios to see how this could impact our team?
• Jake: Absolutely. We could create scenarios where we fully embrace remote work, partially integrate it, or stick to our current setup. This way, we can prepare for any outcome.
• Victoria: Great idea. I'll start gathering more resources and data to support our analysis. Let's make sure we're ready for whatever the future holds.

In this dialogue, Jake and Victoria demonstrate the key ideas of conducting trend analysis, engaging with external resources, and involving their team. They identify a growing trend, discuss external insights, and plan to prepare for future possibilities.

In the upcoming practices, you will have the opportunity to apply these concepts in a practical scenario, enhancing your ability to lead your organization with foresight and confidence.
