Building a Basic Page Structure

Welcome to your first step in creating a comprehensive About Me webpage! In this unit, we'll explore the fundamental structure of an HTML webpage. This is where it all begins — laying down a strong foundation for more complex elements you'll add later.

In this unit, you will set up the basic structure of an HTML webpage. We'll cover how to define the document type, use essential tags like <head>, <title>, and <body>, and build sections for your header, main content, and footer.

Here is a quick preview of the code we'll be working with:

<!DOCTYPE html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
    <meta charset="UTF-8">
    <title>About Me - Basic Structure</title>
</head>
<body>
    <header>
        <h1>Welcome to My Website</h1>
    </header>
    <main>
        <section id="home">
            <h2>Home</h2>
            <p>This is the homepage of my personal website.</p>
        </section>
    </main>
    <footer>
        <p>&copy; 2024 My Personal Website</p>
    </footer>
</body>
</html>

This is a simple yet complete framework. It will serve as the base for your webpage.

Understanding the basic structure of an HTML document is critical. A well-organized structure helps browsers interpret and display your webpage correctly. This will ensure that any additional elements you add later — whether they are images, tables, or navigation links — integrate seamlessly into your design.

Moreover, building a clean structure from the start makes your code easier to read and maintain. It’s like setting up the backbone of your webpage. With a strong foundation, the more complex parts will be easier to handle.
