Right Hand Bottom Row

Now that you have mastered the left-hand bottom row, we will focus on the right hand. In this lesson, you will learn to type four essential keys: N, M, , (comma), and . (period).

Just like the left hand, the right hand uses a "reach and return" motion. Your right index finger normally rests on the J key. To type N and M, you will move this finger down and to the left.

• The N key: Move your right index finger from J down and slightly to the left.
• The M key: Move your right index finger from J straight down.

Even though the index finger is very strong, it is easy to mix these two up because they are side by side. Try to keep your other fingers anchored on K, L, and ; to help your index finger find its way back home.

As we move further to the right on the bottom row, we use the middle and ring fingers. These fingers often feel "weaker" or less flexible than the index finger, so focusing on accuracy here is key.

• The comma (,): Use your right middle finger. Reach down from the K key.
• The period (.): Use your right ring finger. Reach down from the L key.

Using the ring finger for the period can be difficult at first. Most people find that their pinky finger wants to move along with the ring finger. To improve your accuracy, try to keep your pinky finger resting lightly on the ; (semicolon) key. This acts as a stabilizer, allowing your ring finger to move independently.
